Amazing Grace?

I came across this video as I was looking for a different video of Amazing Grace that I had seen in the past. Besides the singer singing sharp for most of the time, the words are, well, interesting. Very reflective of how our culture wants peace but doesn't know what the root of war is and doesn't know what the implications of having a world that gets along perfectly are. Try taking Christianity out of this, and you'll have a hopeless mess to deal with. If this is their definition of amazing grace, I'd hate to know what their definition of peace is...
Oh, and since when did Judy Collins write Amazing Grace? That was a new one for me...
Even though it's rather sad, enjoy getting a laugh out of this one.

Nice sentiments...but how can people sing "Amazing Grace" right after a song decrying religion as an evil. Well, I suppose Lennon's correct--"religion" (as opposed to Biblical Christianity) is an evil and everyone who is not "born again", "born from above" participates in "religion" in some form or other. But Lennon, of course, is not only including Christianity in his use of "religion", but he's more than likely putting Christianity on the top of the list. But to sing "Amazing Grace" after "Imagine" shows how little people understand Biblical Christianity.

Of course, if they think Judy Collins wrote "Amazing Grace" their ignorance runs deeper than I can even "imagine" :-)

Here is an interesting (and moving) clip of "Amazing Grace".

And now for something a bit different: Notorious Aerosmith "screamer" Steve Tyler brings you..."Amazing Grace"

Enjoy! (or not!) :-)

Hey Ab, maybe we can get him for a "special music" guest at SGCC?

Jason,

that was... awful.

Sorry to put it so bluntly, but such are my sentiments.
Can you even call that singing?

I now know never to listen to anything with Steven Tyler's name on it.

The Becky has spoken. =) Rare occasion she ever comments on a blog.

Pretty much all the video that I put on my blog says is that if we get rid of Heaven, Hell, and Religion, people won't ever have to die for anything anymore and all the world will be at peace. Right after that, they turn right around and sing Amazing Grace. Makes absolutely no sense.

It would be kind of funny to go tell an atheist that they're being more religious than a Christian is being. Bet they haven't heard that one before. =)

Hey, maybe Steve Tyler would attract all the youth group seekers! We'll be rockin' in no time!

"Can you even call that singing?"

Well...I must admit that this wasn't his best effort :-)

I suppose he should stay away from "spirituals", that's for sure. But if you heard him in his rock band...well...never mind...you'd still think it was awful. But trust me, you're local Rock-n-Roller; most of Aerosmith is "awesome", not "awful".

Don't worry, though, I'll never attempt to corrupt my favorite "rapper" and "low-end groovemeister" with anything that...well...LOUD! You'll just have to trust me that he sounds excellent in the Aerosmith context.

"Hey, maybe Steve Tyler would attract all the youth group seekers! We'll be rockin' in no time!"

And now that we have a drummer (Mark) we're almost there! I just need to get one of the other two interested in the guitar. Shh...don't tell Dad! :-)

I have to generally agree on Tyler and Aerosmith, they are overrated in my opinion.

The Church of Today...hmm.

No offense, Jason, I know we agree on some music and you are a Googly sharp dude. But, I think I agree with the young ladies on this one.

Well...I really only like the early Aerosmith--the first seven albums (all in the '70's). I guess I also kind of liked "Get a Grip" ('93). But I've always liked them more than the Rolling Stones (who they've always been compared to for some reason).

"Googly sharp"--cool!

Anyway, I'm not a huge fan of Aerosmith. My tastes have been somewhat refined in my "old age". I'm now a huge fan of BT & the Groove Machine and the Le Sorelle String Quartet (the "young ladies" bands)!

Hey Abbey...do you think the other ladies would mind if I posted a couple BT & the Groove Machine and Le Sorelle videos? You guys really rocked the house last year!! :-)

If not, that's cool. I understand if you want to wait until we get the smoke machine, lasers and fire explosions going. :-)
